MID-P is recruiting one Gender Officer to support the implementation of gender component in a drought response project. MID-P secured funding from Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies/Oxfam US through Oxfam GB.

Position: Gender Officer

Duty Station: Isiolo

Duration: 4 Months

Reporting to: Programme Manager Primary

Function.

The Gender Officer will be responsible for the delivery of gender and protection activities under OUS-MACP Project that targets Modogashe and Badana villages in Sericho ward.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of MID-P Gender Policy
  • Support in awareness creation on gender and protection issues and services available in target communities
  • Build the capacity of key stakeholders on protection and Gender-based violence (GBV).
  • Develop training materials and IEC packages on GBV & protection.
  • Promote awareness/education on GBV Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and protection minimum standards.
  • Coordinate and facilitate community meetings and dialogues with stakeholders on GBV & protection issues and develop action plans.
  • Represent MID-P at the monthly & quarterly gender and protection working group meetings.
  • Support in strengthening a gender responsive/sensitive complaints and response mechanism that would ensure that communities are aware of how to give feedback, where and the stakeholders involved to address the feedback in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with gender and protection actors through enhanced synergies to implement protection education, case management, and GBV cases received to existing GBV referral mechanisms. The Officer shall ensure that such cases are followed up to completion.
  • Conduct regular feedback reviews with stakeholders regarding the program.
  • Compile and submit quality reports to the Project Manager and ensure that all reports are accurate.
  • Lead in actioning of recommendations from the gender and protection assessment report in target sites.
  • Conduct field visits to supervise, coordinate, monitor and ensure that field-level activities incorporate a strong gender perspective, in addition to ensuring that monitoring and evaluation of activities include gender related indicators and gender disaggregated data is collected at all levels of the project.
  • Support in conducting project monitoring, learning and reporting, and ensure that reporting is timely and meets the evidence and gender needs of the project.
  • Support in fundraising efforts to enable MID-P to upscale and develop further gender and GBV focused projects.
  • Contribute to the development of gender and protection Manual for MID-P.
  • Undertake other duties as required.
  • KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

3. National and County Government relevant Departments.

4. Isiolo County CSO Network

5. Partner Communities

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Gender studies, Sociology or any other relevant field.

• At least 3 years of practical working experience in gender inclusivity, empowerment and sustainable development in Kenya.

• Excellent analytical, writing, communications and advocacy skills.

• Experience of working with NGOs

• Experience in working with stakeholders in development programs especially in gender mainstreaming is an asset.

• Experience in capacity building and training staff and stakeholders on gender-mainstreaming.

• Experience in providing substantive technical inputs on Gender equality and Women Empowerment.

• Experience in mobilizing resources is desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to manage teams and communicate effectively with an ethnically diverse team in a sensitive environment.

• Ability to build other people’s capacity

• Observation, active listening, and analysis skills with ability to make sound judgment.

• Good relationship, partnership, coordination and management skills and the ability to work closely with local partners, the Government, and community members.

• Proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented

• Commitment to core humanitarian standards, principles and values.

• Ability to prioritize multiple work demands in challenging environments and work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.

• Must be willing and able to travel within the County as needed.

• Professional fluency in English, Kiswahili and local language(s) is an added advantage.
